How Much Electricity Does a 3D Printer Use?

Published Sun Mar 01 2026

Most hobby and desktop machines use less electricity cost than sellers expect, but it still belongs in your model.

Formula:

$electricity_kwh = (watts * hours) / 1000$

$electricity_cost = electricity_kwh * rate_per_kwh$

Example:

120W for 10 hours equals 1.2kWh. At $0.12/kWh, that is $0.144.

The bigger mistakes are usually ignored failures, fees, and labor. Include all cost categories together for accurate pricing.
